The first chapter of the Guardians of the Land™ series features Bodegas Muga, an internationally renowned Riojan winery whose quality wines are widely valued throughout the world. Muga accomplishes this quality through a balance of traditional techniques and innovative advancements in the wine industry. Parque Natural de l’Albufera & Suterra

Chapter 2

This second chapter of the Guardians of the Land™ series is dedicated to a pioneering initiative that has become an example of sustainability for the world: the protection of one of the most valuable wetlands in Europe. The Natural Park of l'Albufera de València initiated a successful biocontrol experiment more than 30 years ago to improve the biodiversity of birds and other wildlife suffering from overuse of harmful pesticides. The generational rice growers of this historic region partnered with Suterra to protect their legacy landscapes. Today, the rice borer pest is controlled on over 15,000 hectares of rice without the use of harmful insecticides.

Chapter 3

The third chapter of Guardians of the Land™ is dedicated to the renowned San Leonardo winery. Its three centuries of history demonstrate its dedication to the protection of the landscape in which the winery and its vineyards are located, in Val Lagarina, at the foot of Monte Baldo and the Lessini mountains. San Leonardo is the first Italian protagonist in this documentary series that pays tribute to the commitment to sustainable agriculture. Suterra recognises the work of San Leonardo team members in preserving the territory's heritage. The positive impact of their vineyards on the landscape makes them perfect 'Guardians of the Land'.

Château d’Auvernier & Suterra

Chapter 5

The documentary series Guardians of the Land™ delves into Swiss territory to showcase the environmental commitment of one of its historic wineries. At Caves du Château d’Auvernier, they've been crafting wine in the family castle since 1603. Standing on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, they vinify the production from about 150 acres of vineyards, benefiting from the lake's proximity and the protection of the Jura Mountains. It's a complex terrain due to its steep slopes, where the Puffer® aerosol pheromone system provides the most effective solution for biocontrol of grapevine moth using the mating disruption technique.

Surrounded by an exceptional landscape of native forests and hills, Viña VIK’s vineyards are grown under optimal conditions to achieve production excellence. In this biodiversity-rich territory, Suterra's Puffer biocontrol system, which uses the mating disruption technique, stands out as the most effective solution for sustainable control of the grapevine moth. With the support of Copeval, Suterra’s strategic partner in Chile, the Puffer system is installed and monitored quickly and precisely, contributing to the protection of this exceptional landscape.

“Wonderful Citrus has been using this product for about seven years now and we have seen a dramatic decrease in our pest pressures. After the product is up, it works year-long so I can sleep at night knowing something is out there working."

"CheckMate NOW-F has been a game changer for us. We applied it by air twice early in the season: once as a “May spray” and once before hull split. The timing not only fit with our other sprays for a free ride, it also helped us cut pest populations early to improve the efficacy of all our other inputs. The results were clear—cleaner nuts and lower pressure, even in historically tough blocks. This gave us long-acting coverage and peace of mind."

Field Voices: The Results Behind the Commitment

Wonderful Citrus | California Red Scale

CheckMate® CRS

Brandon Koch, PCA at Wonderful Citrus, explains the challenge plainly: "You want a clean piece of fruit. You want something that looks good because we all eat with our eyes first." Wonderful Citrus has been using CheckMate® CRS for about seven years and has seen a dramatic decrease in pest pressure. What began as spraying 3,000 acres has gone down to roughly 400 to 600, with chemical usage and procurement dropping exponentially along the way. In Koch's words, "after the product is up, it works year-long. I can sleep at night knowing something is out there working."

Puffer® NOW Ace

Wonderful Orchards is the world's largest grower and processor of almonds and pistachios, farming 125,000 acres across California's Central Valley. Since converting to 100% mating disruption with Puffer® NOW Ace, PCA Roberto Iturralde has seen trap counts fall dramatically and crop damage reduce by up to 20 to 25% across every ranch he oversees. Because Suterra's pheromone compounds are naturally occurring and species-specific, they have zero effect on the bee populations essential to pollinating the orchard. The land, the crop, and the beneficial insects that sustain both are all protected.

CheckMate® NOW-F

Rob Weaver, PCA at Campos Brothers Farms, applied CheckMate® NOW-F twice early in the season: once as a May spray and once before hull split. The timing fit with existing sprays, cut pest populations early, and improved the efficacy of all other inputs. The results were clear: cleaner nuts and lower pressure, even in historically tough blocks, with long-acting coverage across the entire program.

Bart Haycraft | Vine Mealybug

CheckMate® VMB

Bart Haycraft has worked in the wine industry for more than 25 years, writing recommendations for growers at some of California's most well-known wineries. Like many in the region, they were dedicated to a system-wide approach to managing pests across their vineyards. Vine mealybug, a pest and vector of leafroll virus 3, had proven a formidable foe and traditional chemistry was not going to work against it. CheckMate® VMB creates a plume of pheromone that confuses the population so numbers go down consistently season after season. Over the years Suterra's products have proven consistently effective and delivered exceptional returns on investment. "Suterra has become the backbone of a program in the fight against the vine mealybug."

puffer imm

Harris Woolf Almonds | Indianmeal Moth

Puffer® IMM

Harris Woolf Almonds is a vertically integrated, grower-owned processor committed to food safety and quality from the orchard all the way to the consumer. In 2021 they became a B-Corp, making sustainability central not just to their practices but to their business model. Tom Carter, VP of Coalinga Operations, describes Puffer® IMM as a set-it-and-forget-it system: pre-programmed to dispense precise amounts of pheromone, out of the way, and proven extremely effective against Indianmeal moth and other stored product moths common in almond processing facilities. It has reduced traditional insecticide use, eliminated application disruptions to operations, lowered residue risk on finished product, and created a safer working environment for employees throughout the facility. For a company shipping almonds to markets around the world, Suterra helps them meet their quality, safety, and sustainability goals every step of the way.

Suterra_RPM_010

RPM | Indianmeal Moth

Puffer® IMM

RPM handles green coffee beans imported into the United States, storing up to 60 million pounds at any given time across 300,000 square feet of warehouse space. Like all stored commodities, coffee faces a hidden risk: stored product pests that can quietly compromise quality, interrupt daily operations, and damage the reputation built with customers who expect a pest-free product. To counter this, RPM partners with Suterra. Just 42 units of Puffer® IMM were deployed across their entire facility, delivering over six months of consistent, precise pheromone release per unit with no harmful chemicals introduced into the environment. The Indianmeal moth population has been significantly reduced across all of their warehouses nationwide. For a company committed to sustainable quality from origin farm to final cup, Puffer® IMM has become more than a pest control solution. In RPM's own words, "it becomes a selling point that translates to further confidence down the supply chain."
