MONITORING INFORMATION
Monitoring adult populations of peach twig borer with BioLureŽ pheromone traps is strongly recommended to provide baseline information on population density and to improve timing of mating disruption and/or insecticide treatments. Good monitoring is an important part of achieving optimum results. Visual inspection of shoots and fruit for larval feeding is also needed at frequent intervals after treating to implement supplemental control strategies if needed. Place one BioLure PTB wing trap per 10 acres with a minimum of two traps per block. Place traps at mid-canopy height. When the first peach twig borer is caught in a trap, CheckMateŽ PTB-XL dispensers should be applied. Place additional traps on borders that are most subject to migration from adjacent fields or host crops. Clean trap bottoms at least weekly. Replace BioLure PTB lures at least every eight weeks and trap bottoms more often if they become dirty or covered with dust, spray material, moth scales or other insect body parts. Do not handle other types of insect lures before or after placement of BioLure PTB traps without thoroughly washing hands. BioLure PTB traps should not be utilized as the only method of monitoring the degree of crop protection being afforded by CheckMate PTB-XL. Effective pheromone mating disruption treatments will shut down trap catches of male moths. Pheromone lures, such as BioLure PTB will not detect migration of peach twig borer females from adjacent fields or infestations of OFM. The use of bait traps (terpinyl acetate) and frequent field inspection of fruit is strongly recommeded. |
